Paul Lester Jewers, born April 12, 1956 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Married in Toronto October 14, 1978 to Deborah Lynn (Wellwood) Marks, born May 23, 1957 in Toronto, Ontario.

We have two children:

(1). Bradley Paul Jewers, born May 26, 1985 in Toronto, Ontario.
(2). Ashley Edwina Mae Jewers, born January 14, 1989 in Toronto, Ontario.

Thank you for your information on the Jewers Family which you sent some time ago, where you listed the names of the children born to John & Mary Jewers, eight in number.

We do not have any information on any of the children other than those of Robert, which you list as Family Group #8 ,ie. Bapt. Apr. 1st, 1804, Married 1827 to a woman Ellen, last name unknown.

In 1828 or 1829 a son was born named Charles Henry. We are not sure if they had any other children.

Charles Henry was married to a woman named Elizabeth, born 1833, possible last name Smith.

The date of marriage is not known. According to the census of 1871, seven children were born to this couple.

John Edward - born 1866 (our line)

In the census of 1881 Charles Henry was widowed. In 1883 he married Hannah Mullins (a widow). She was the daughter of James and Nancy Davis.

We can offer no information on the families of the children other than John Edward (b. 1866 d. 1910). John Edward married Mary Ellen Mullins of Prospect N.S. in 1892 or 1893. She was the daughter of James and Dora Mullins. James Mullins was born in 1845 and Dora (last name not known) was born in 1853. Mary Ellen died in Halifax in 1944.

Frank Forrest was born 1894 and married in 1919 to Mary Louise Chandler (b. 1897) daughter of William Chandler (b. 1876 d. 1944) and Mary Crier (b. 1876 d. 1916). Children born to Frank Forrest Jewers and Mary Louise Chandler were:

John William Jewers: Born 1920 died Oct. 1981 Married Sarah Ross of Riley Brook N.B. in 1943 or 1944. Born to John and Sarah was a son:

Raymond Jewers on Oct. 15, 1945.

John and Sarah were divorced around 1954 or 1955.

John William was later married to Jean Howell of Osgood, Ontatio. She died several years later (exact dates not known to us).

John then married Thelma Sheffield of Ontario. She is still alive and lives in Ottawa, Ontario.

No children were born in either of John's second or third marriages.

At the time of his death, John William (b. 1920) was a retired naval officer.

Raymond Jewers: born 1945 died 1993.

Married Bernice Bartlett of Ottawa, Ontario - divorced.

Married Philoppa Urquart of Farnham, England - divorced Raymond and Philoppa had two children.

Rosie Jewers - born 1974 - Farnham, England.
John Jewers - born Sept. 1977 or 1978 - Farnham, England.

Raymond later married Collette Stevenson of London, England. Raymond (b. 1945) was at the time of his death a stage theater actor.

The Family of Wallace Frank Jewers.

Wallace Frank Jewers: Born Sept. 8, 1923 (still alive)
Married to Cecelia Mary MacPherson (b. May 26, 1927) in 1947. She was the daughter of Cyrus MacPherson and Nora Desroche of Prince Edward Island. Cecelia died April 9, 1992.

Wallace is currently retired. He was a Trade Union representative.

Born to Wallace and Cecelia were three children:

Brenda Lee - born April 7, 1948.
Darlene Marie - born Feb. 11,1950 died March 4, 1950.
Daniel Mark John - born Sept. 14, 1962.

Brenda Jewers: born 1948.
Married David Chinn. Brenda was previously married to Robert Marriot of Halifax, NS. Brenda's occupation is currently a United States State Dept. Employee. No children in either marriage.

Daniel Mark: born 1962.
Married Colleen Mawhinney of Dartmouth, NS in August of 1996. Dainel was previously married to Lori Helgason of Dartmouth, NS. Daniel's occupation is currently a Distribution Supervisor for Ben's Bakery in Moncton, NB. No children in either marriage.

Ralph Leo Jewers: Born August 15,1926 died October, 1975.
Married to Queenie Dawe of Halifax, NS.
Ralph Leo's occupation at time of death was a Machinist.

Born to Ralph and Queenie was one son, Robert Wallace on Sept. 30, 1945.

Robert Wallace: born 1945
Robert married Stella Walsh of Halifax, NS in 1963 or 1964.
They are now divorced.

Three children were born to Robert and Stella:

The Family of Robert Whitman Jewers

Robert Whitman Jewers was the son of John Edward Jewers and Mary Ellen Jewers. His birthdate is not known to us. However, we can be sure it was between 1895 and 1900. Robert Whitman, he was twice married. One marriage was in the Boston area to a woman named Doris (last name not known to us). They had four children - Ruby, Jimmy, Robert and Pearl. The only child still alive is Ruby who is thought to be in Florida. Robert Whitman returned to Canada about 1944. He lived in the Halifax, NS area. He remarried in the 1950's to a woman also named Doris.

Robert Whitman died about 1965 in Halifax, and both of his wifes have passed away.

The Family of Leo A. Jewers

Leo A. Jewers was the son of John Edward Jewers and Mary Ellen Jewers. His birthdate is not know to us. It was however around 1900. Leo A. Jewers was married twice. His first wife's name is not know to us. They had one daughter named Madelyn. Leo's second wife was Edna Ferioli,date of birth and death not known to us. They had one daughter named Loraine who was not married and is apparently living in New Jersey. Leo A. died in 1969. His first wife's date of death is not known. His daughter Madelyn died in 1991. Leo A. Jewers was an electrician, lived in Port Reading, New Jersey. The family were all Roman Catholic.

The Family of Elizabeth Jewers

Elizabeth Jewers was the daughter of John Edward Jewers and Mary Ellen Jewers. Her birthdate is not known to us. It was however between 1896 and 1900. She was married to Donald Boehner of LaHave River, NS. Donald's birthdate is not known to us. Elizabeth died in 1958 in New Jersey where she lived for many years. Children born to Elizabeth and Donald Boehner were:

June - birthdate and death not known. It is believed she was married to a man, last name Dunn. She lived in New Jersey.

Donald - Birthdate not known. Died Nov. 24, 1995 in New Jersey. He was married to Jean Fox.

Wallace - Birthdate not known. Died March 31, 1972 in New Jersey. He was married to a woman named Mary dates and last name unknown to us.

Robert - Birthdate not known.

Harold - Birthdate about 1935. Married to a woman named Helen. Last name and birthdate not known to us. They reside in New Jersey.

The Family of John Jewers

John Jewers was the son of John Edward Jewers and Mary Ellen Jewers. His birthdate is not known to us but was between 1896 and 1900. He was married to Ellen Prunty (b. 1903 in PEI) the daughter of Michel Prunty and Ellen Chapman of PEI. John Jewers was a seaman and was of Roman Catholic faith. His date of death is not known to us. His wife Ellen died in PEI on May 6, 1926.

Children of John & Ellen were as follows:

Marion - b. 1920 d. 1987 at Woodbridge, New Jersey. She was married to Jos Libis.

They had two sons, three daughters, 11 grandchildren. No further details are known.

John Melvin - b. July 1, 1923 in Charlottetown, PEI. He is married to Gertrude C. Cheress. who was born Feb. 10,1928. She is retired. She is the daughter of Gustav Cherescavich and Stephanie Kuchinski of Woodbridge, New Jersey. John Melvin served in the Canadian Army Active Service from 1942 - 1946. They now live at 169 Sherry St. Woodbridge, New Jersey. He is a retired Master Tech from the Elizabethtown Gas Company and is of Roman Catholic Faith. She is also of Roman Catholic Faith. the children of John M. and Gertrude are as follows:

Susan - born Jan. 1, 1953 in Rahway, New Jersey. She was married to Edward Lupkin on Aug. 2, 1977. They have three children, Stephanie, Abraham and Joshua. They are now divorced.

Gregory J. - born October 23, 1955 at Perth Amboy, New Jersey. He was married to Leslie Dyer on Oct. 13, 1991. They are now divorced.

Wayne J. - born August 1, 1959 at Perth Amboy, New Jersey. He is single.

The Family of Mary Jewers

Mary Jewers was the daughter of John Edward Jewers and Mary Ellen Jewers. Her birthdate is not known to us. It was however between 1900 and 1905 in Nova Scotia. She was married to Harold Ringwood of New Jersey. The date of death for Mary and Harold are not known to us. It is known that both died in New Jersey. They had three children. No further details are known to us.

I was at the LDS History Center for 2 hrs today and found a Robert Jewers B:1804, was married to a Mary Ellen, birth & bapt.1902, a Charles Henry, in Nova Scotia, not 1828 or 1829 like I saw someone named Daniel told you on your Page in Group #8 for 1) Charles Henry. Just passing on info I saw.

Also, Parents: Robert Jewers/Mary Ellen gave birth to 2)Guy Watt B:1901, Halifax, 3)Elsie Marie B:1895, Halifax, 4)Delay O'Niel, B:1893, Halifax, 5)Annie May B:1892, Halifax, and 6)Gladys Pearl B:1889, Halifax. Go figure!

Thank you for letting me share this info I've gathered for your Group#8. I have also sent your brother the original obituary which included a picture of Henry at 101 yrs old. At 100, he received a gold headed cane from Gov. Gardiner of Maine, along with a congratulatory letter. I also sent a picture (approx.130 yrs. old), of Henry's first wife.

How's it going? Your page looks great!! I finally straighted out some info on my family history. I obtained a picture of Ada Whynock, Henry Alfred Jewers' 2nd wife, and if she isn't Indian, I'll eat my hat. Apparently, She was Henry's housekeeper, then married him. His son John and her apparently did the nasty, and wah lah, the product was my grandmother Effie Mae Jewers. That's been the secret all this time.
Still Trying to get info on Henry's background; wrote Maine. What do you think about that?

I have info on another son of Robert's, which you list as Family Group#8, ie, Bapt. April 1st, 1804. Married Ellen Whynot 1827.

Henry Alfred: Born 11/17/1829, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Laborer, Farmer, Railroad man.
Died: 12/16/1930, Millinocket, Maine.
Married: (1st wife) Margaret Barry 09/24/1869, Annapolis, Nova Scotia. She was an illigitmate child.
Children:
William: Born approx 1870.
John: Born 1874 or 1875. Died: 1957.

Married: (2nd wife): * Ada Louise Whynot 09/25/1878 by License in Baptist Church, Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. Witness to marriage, Arnold Dill and Nathaniel Whynot (brother).
Born: 05/29/1857, Upper La Have, Nova Scotia.
Christened: 10/18/1857, St. James, Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia.

Were Ada and Ellen Whynot distant relative or are their last names just a coincidence?

John, son of Henry, grandson of Robert:

Children: Henry, Effie, Evelyn, Margaret, Ralph, Harold, Robert, Edward, Olive, Betty, Mary.

I know from family talk that John Jewers, while married to Nellie, also fathered a daughter from their Mic Mac Indian housekeeper. Nellie refused to bring up the child, so she was given to (or adopted by) his father and step-mother, Henry Alfred and Ada, to raise. She was then raised as John's half sister, Effie Mae Jewers.

As a child, the family moved, from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. After 1891, on to Summerside PEI, then on to Rumford Falls, Maine in 1893. Then on to Millinocket, Maine in 1904.

In the 1891 Census it shows Henry 44, Ada 32 (wife), William 20 (son), George Whynot (father), Thomas 3, and lodger (could this be Effie).

Born: 12/24/1889. Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. No record of birth certificate.
Married: 1907 to Eleazer "Alec" (Dawe) Dawes of Seal Cove, Newfoundland.

Mr. Paul Jewers

Mr. Clyde Winslow Jewers is deceased as of October, 5, 1994. He was fishing on the bank of the Fraser River when he had his fatal last heart attack and passed away.

I am his second wife and really do not know alot of his family tree as his parents were gone by the time I arrived on the scene. His first wife was an English girl who died of heart problems after bearing him three girls. We were married twenty-eight years but really never got into the family tree bit. Clyde was born in Marie Joseph N.S., did serve in the Military during the war and was overseas where he met his first wife Mary McCarthy.

He had two brothers and a sister. There is one sister alive and one brother left. The sister is ill. I will give you her address: Mrs. Mary Warwick, 390 Meadowhill Road, Burlington, Ontario, L7L 3L6. (Mary Warwick has passed away just after I met with and he daughter.)

There is another lady who is a relative who has worked on a family tree. Mrs. Gloria Coons, 9437 -6th Street, Dawson Creek, B.C. V1G 3L7.

Clyde was in the military for the 2nd time when I met him in Portage la Praire, Manitoba. We married Aug. 19, 1966. We were transfered to Camp Borden, Ontario. Clyde had been there before. My name before being married was Evelyn G. (Wallace) Pinkney. My 1st husband died of heart desease.

Clyde's three girls and my two (1 girl & 1 boy) all ended up in Ontario. His oldest is Shelagh Mary (Mrs. John Dyer), 37 Mountview Road, Sackville. N.B. E0A 3C0. His second daughter is Sharon Anne Brydgas, 25 Dovercliffe Way SE, Galgary, Alberta, T2B 1W6. And also Mrs. Sandra Gail (Mrs. Allen Abbey), 2542-267 St. Aldergrove, B.C.

I do not know much about his family, his mother was a Mirsner (Emmeline) and his fathers name I believe was Frank. Mr. Reg Jewers could give you that information or Mary Warwick. Clyde was born Feb. 26, 1924.

In another letter dated April 8, 1996 she said when Clyde and I visited Marie Joseph we visited some relatives there. Two were gone and one went to live somewhere. I believe her name was Peggy. We also went to the Church where both Clyde and Reg's names were up for Wartime Service. We also went out to the Graveyard to look up relatives. Clyde found some. George Jewers lived in Pictou and I believe he is buried not too for from there.

They, the three brothers had a great sense of humour. Reg keeps in touch. I may have told you some of this before. Thanks again for writing.
